The CENTRE FOR EUROPEAN CONSTITUTIONAL LAW (CECL) is the coordinating partner in GUARD-UP : Empowering guardianship systems to improve the guidance of UAC, funded  under the AMIF-2023-TF2-AG-CALL and running from 1 April 2024 until 1 October 2026.

This project addresses the need to strengthen the support offered to guardians of unaccompanied migrant children in Greece, Italy, Poland, Cyprus, Croatia and Belgium. The improvement of guardianship systems will be achieved through transnational experience sharing, peer exchange and learning and through focused knowledge transfer from the Netherlands.

Aim and target group

The general objective of this project is to improve the effectiveness of guardianship systems for unaccompanied migrant children in Greece, Italy, Poland, Cyprus, Croatia and Belgium by building capacity of guardians and stakeholders, supporting the exchange of good practice and knowledgesharing among various relevant actors, and building a space for guardians to network with their peers. The expected impact of the project is to improve the quality of guardianship for unaccompanied migrant children.

To that end, the target groups of the action are a) guardians and b) stakeholders involved in the care, protection, and support of unaccompanied migrant children, including government agencies, NGOs, community organizations, legal staff, mental health professionals, local authorities, education providers, and other civil society organizations. The action aims to build their capacity by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide effective support to guardians of unaccompanied migrant children and enhance the quality of guardianship for unaccompanied migrant children.

 

Activities

-Promoting knowledge-sharing and collaboration among participating countries by providing an overview of legal and policy frameworks, presenting good practices, and conducting study visits.

– Developing a comprehensive training program for stakeholders and guardians of unaccompanied migrant children, including a literature review,

training needs assessment, content development, and evaluation of the training package.

-Capacity building for stakeholders and guardians by delivering training activities and organizing a transnational co-design workshop.

-Increasing public visibility and disseminate the project’s results to the scientific community, policymakers, and relevant stakeholders, using accessible and scientific language, and promoting all project outputs and results.
